Airway Health Dentists

Breathe better, live healthier

Airway treatment for children and adults

Proper functioning of the mouth is critical to overall body function. As part of your routine care, we always look for any oral concerns that are impacting your airway.

At Adams Dental, we have advanced training and experience in promoting healthy breathing and overall well-being. Combining decades of experience, comprehensive diagnostics, and modern therapies, we offer innovative solutions to help children and adults breathe, sleep, and live better.

Why choose an airway dentist?

Breathing optimally depends on several factors, including stable oral health, functional jaw joints, functional cranial nerves, adequate-sized jaws, and unobstructed airflow. If any of these components are compromised, it can lead to severe chronic health issues such as crowded teeth, anxiety, sleep-disordered breathing, snoring, and sleep apnea.

Common signs and symptoms of an airway problem include:

Teeth marks on your tongue (from pressing your tongue against your teeth)

Clenching or grinding your teeth

Mouth breathing

Snoring

Unexplained fatigue

Being diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)

Hearing a pop or click when you open and close your mouth

Hormonal imbalance

Morning headaches

Acid reflux

Chronic neck or back pain

Waking up at night gasping or choking

Diagnosis

Treatment begins with understanding the problem. We ask questions, evaluate function, and use technology to assess breathing and structure so we can formulate individual plans for airway health.

Modern Solutions

Airway dentistry seeks to address structural and functional compromise. We approach airway issues by moving beyond the idea of CPAP or mandibular advancement appliances for every patient. With a keen understanding of the role that structure, function, neurology, and trauma have on people, we are successfully treating children and adults with minimally invasive, alternative solutions that enhance healing.

Unique & Expert Perspectives

As dentists, we have an understanding of the normal appearance of tissues in the mouth and throat that facilitate airflow and know when compromise exists. We have two myofunctional therapists on staff and a team with advanced training in the fields of sleep dentistry, and oromotor disorders.

Personalized Care

Our integrative approach considers the big picture and relies on customized solutions. We can design the perfect combination of therapies and treatments for children and adults.

Is your child a mouth breather?

Children ages 2-6 who chronically breathe through their mouth are more susceptible to a variety of chronic illnesses, including:

  • Narrow and collapsed or high palate
  • Chronic middle ear infections
  • Crowded teeth
  • Jaws that shift backward
  • Enlarged adenoids and tonsils
  • Cognitive and behavioral issues
  • Snoring
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Inflammatory diseases
  • Frequent colds
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Prolonged bedwetting

If you suspect airway issues in your child, contact us for an evaluation. Treating airway issues as early as possible is vital for your child’s proper growth and development. Our dentists have advanced education in craniofacial growth and development and offer a modern, whole-body approach to treatment.

Do you snore at night?

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a condition where your breathing stops periodically during the night due to airway blockage. Snoring is one of the most common warning signs of this issue and should not be ignored.

Dr. Adams is a pioneer in the fields of airway-focused dentistry, including sleep apnea. A member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, she provides advanced treatment of snoring and OSA, including modern alternatives to using a bulky CPAP. Working in conjunction with sleep physicians, we can help resolve airway issues like sleep apnea and snoring.

“Wonderful experience every single time my daughter visits. She had issues with her bite, and Dr. Adams helped her resolve the issue.
